(Patria) - Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Speaker of the Assembly Gljauk Konjufca signed the application for membership in the European Union today, reports Klan Kosova.
Osmani said on the occasion that Kosovo has moved closer to the European Union by signing the application.
"Today is a historic day. December 14 now has a double significance in the modern history of Kosovo. On one hand, we mark the application for EU membership, and on the other hand, the anniversary of the Kosovo Army. Together with Konjufca and Kurti, on behalf of the Republic of Kosovo, we are taking a decisive step towards achieving our inalienable ambition. Today we are bringing Kosovo one step closer to the EU," Osmani stated.
Osmani emphasized that there is no other alternative for the citizens of Kosovo.
"This act is dedicated to all citizens of our country. This moment is dedicated to every child, woman and man of Kosovo who sacrificed their lives and who were unjustly faced with genocide and occupation," Osmani said.
According to her, Kosovo deserves to be part of the EU.
"The youngest state on the oldest continent, a country of political pluralism, Kosovo with a free market economy, deserves to be part of the EU family. Our path forward is clear, the process may be long-term, but we will do our job, so that the EU can do its job more easily," Osmani stated.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that the application will be submitted to the Czech Presidency of the EU in Prague.
“Progress will depend on our commitment to deep and progressive reforms. How fast we will go will depend on us. We will move forward on our own merits, our own ability to meet the criteria. We overcome obstacles and challenges through democratic development and social progress,” Kurti said.
