(Patria) - The Serbian opposition organized protests tonight under the name "Serbia Against Violence", prompted by the mass murders that have struck the country in recent days.
In addition to Belgrade, protest gatherings, attended by several thousand people, are also being held in Novi Sad, Kraljevo, Čačak, Kragujevac...
There are no speeches or addresses at the gatherings, and at the beginning, the organizers' demands were read out, with a deadline for the authorities to meet them by Friday, May 12, Serbian media report.
The following demands were presented:
- Immediate cessation of further promotion of violence in the media and public space, including the dismissal of the Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media;
- Shutting down print media and tabloids that promote hatred and violence and continuously violate the journalistic code, as well as revoking national frequencies from television stations (that) promote violence, such as Pink and Happy TV;
- Abolition of programs that promote violence, immorality, and aggression on television stations with national frequencies, such as reality shows;
- Dismissal of Minister of Education Branko Ružić (who resigned yesterday), Minister of Internal Affairs Bratislav Gašić, and Director of the Security Information Agency Aleksandar Vulin (the resignation of the Minister of Education proves that the authorities only respond to pressure from citizens and that it is necessary to persist until all demands are met);
- Convening a session of the National Assembly to consider the responsibility of the Government of Serbia and the security situation in the country, as well as long-term solutions that must be implemented to ensure that such (tragic) events never happen again;
- The deadline for meeting all protest demands is Friday, May 12.

The protest is organized by the Democratic Party, the People's Party, the Green-Left Front - We Don't Give Up Belgrade, the Together party, the Party of Freedom and Justice, the Movement of Free Citizens, the Sloga Union, and the Movement for Reversal.
"The protest is not partisan, and all citizens and organizations who wish to support the fight against violence are welcome, without any divisions, and the gathering will take place without party insignia," the organizers announced.
