Mladen Grujičić, the new mayor of Srebrenica, said today in Sarajevo that many Bosniaks voted for him and congratulated him on the streets. He said that Srebrenica must be an open city where coexistence needs to be built, writes the BiH news agency Patria. Grujičić came to Sarajevo to officially receive his mandate certificate from the Central Election Commission (CIK).
- There are no excesses in Srebrenica, you don't have excesses on the streets, you don't have them on a national basis between children in the school where I work - says Grujičić.
When asked by Patria journalists if waving flags of other countries in the center of Srebrenica is an excess, Grujičić said that he did not understand the question, and after it was clarified to him that flags of Serbia were waved in the center of Srebrenica on the night his victory was celebrated, he said:
- I do not consider it an excess because Srebrenica must be open to everyone. Bosnia is our country, but I don't see anything wrong with some people loving Serbia. Srebrenica cannot survive alone - Grujičić stated.
When asked for clarification on what it means that Srebrenica cannot survive alone, the new mayor of Srebrenica said:
- I mean in the sense that it must be open, we must not close ourselves off and we must cooperate with other countries - said Grujičić.
