Fra Ivo Marković: Croatian policy in BiH is determined by so-called Herceg Bosna and UDBA cadres

Croatian policy is largely undefined. Croats are without orientation, and worst of all, Croatian policy is determined by so-called Herceg Bosna, which is the most catastrophic part of Croatian policy that is still so powerful, said Fra Ivo Marković, a professor at the Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo, for TV1, reports Patria.

"Mostly, these are cadres educated during the communist era and the UDBA tradition, and then Čović easily finds himself with that company because it is the same mentality. I think that from that side, Croatian presence in BiH is mostly present through that Herceg Bosna. I think it would be better if they had a more active policy, if it was clearly known what they want from Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Fra Marković.

Croatian policy must openly oppose Milorad Dodik's policy, believes Fra Marković.

"They must openly say that they will not allow any secession, and that Croats will be represented throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina as their space. I think there is room for a more constructive role for Croatia there," said Fra Marković.

He said that he hopes that the EU will not fall apart after all, because it is one of the best types of society that exists in the world today, and BiH would gain a change in the organization of society by joining the EU, not only in economic but also in legal terms.

"Politicians are afraid of suffering Sanader's fate and that is why they are afraid of the EU," believes Fra Marković.

"The forces that could lead BiH into the EU, I think, would have to be more organized. I am disappointed in the opposition, which seems to lack strength. If the opposition were to start solidly from the needs of the people and the protection of the exploited, then BiH could be mobilized on the path to Europe," said Fra Marković.
