European Council: Green light for visa regime abolition for Kosovo citizens

(Patria) - The European Council has given the green light for visa liberalization for Kosovo citizens, the body announced.

As stated, the Council today adopted its position at first reading on visa-free travel for holders of passports issued by Kosovo.

This will allow those with Kosovo passports to travel to the EU without a visa for a period of 90 days in any 180-day period, the statement added.

This will take effect when the European Travel Information and Authorisation System becomes operational or from January 1, 2024, whichever comes first.

As stated, this now needs to be adopted by the European Parliament before it can be signed and published in the EU's Official Journal.

- Kosovo has made enormous efforts to improve security and migration management and to align with the EU's visa policy.
