MEPs investigate whether Croatia violates migrants' rights

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A delegation of MEPs from the Greens group has announced a visit to the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to assess the situation following numerous allegations that the Croatian side violates human rights in its treatment of migrants, Croatian media reported.

All EU member states tacitly support violations of migrants' human rights at the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the delegation of MEPs from the Greens group assessed in a meeting with Croatian Interior Minister Davor Božinović.

German MP Erik Markard believes that all EU member states are responsible for the situation at the Croatian border and noted that the delegation is not there “to blame the Croatian police,” because the situation is “a result of pressure from the entire Union.”

“Border states like Croatia, Greece and Italy have to deal with the arrivals of migrants, and other EU member states should share the responsibility, which is not the case today,” believes MP from the Netherlands Tineke Strik.

Božinović rejected the allegations of human rights violations and emphasized that during the meeting with the Greens delegation he pointed out that Croatia protects its border in accordance with the law and at the same time treats humanely all those who truly need help.

“There is no talk of violence against migrants. These are objections that come exclusively from the left political spectrum, and no one has presented any relevant evidence about it,” Božinović added.
