Erdogan to visit Serbia on October 10

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in New York on Wednesday to discuss relations between the two countries, economic cooperation, and the upcoming visit of the Turkish president to Serbia, Danas reports, as stated by the Patria agency.

During the meeting, the date for Erdoğan's visit to Belgrade was set for October 10. Vučić emphasized that this would be a confirmation of the great friendship between the two nations and expressed gratitude to Turkish companies that have invested in the least developed areas of Serbia.

"Our country cherishes sincere friendship towards the Turkish people, and today we have the opportunity to start a new process in our relations," Vučić stated.

Erdoğan stressed that the relations between Serbia and Turkey are very important for peace and stability in the Balkans.

"Serbia is a key country in the Balkans for preserving peace and stability, which is why we have always supported your European path," said the Turkish president.

He emphasized the need to work on strengthening economic relations and trade exchange, which, as he stated, amounted to about 800 million dollars in 2016 and 539 million dollars in the first six months of 2017.

"Our common goal should be one billion dollars, and I support our investors to invest as much as possible in Serbia," concluded President Erdoğan, emphasizing that a free trade agreement between the two countries should be signed during his visit to Serbia.

The two interlocutors agreed that tourism is a very important segment in the development of economic relations and that it is necessary to work on increasing the number of tourists in both countries.

Infrastructure projects in which the Turkish side is interested were also discussed, such as the Kraljevo airport, the Tutin - Novi Pazar - Sjenica highway, and the Belgrade - Sarajevo highway.
