SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Significant progress is visible in explaining and convincing Croatian officials that radioactive and nuclear waste is not dangerous, especially when stored and disposed of near our homes and yards, said Jasmin Emrić, a state parliamentarian from NES.
"Previously, they cited the example that a banana peel has more radioactivity than the barrels they intend to dispose of almost on our border, in the old facilities of the former Čerkezovac barracks.
After the 3rd joint session of the two governments held in Zagreb, at a press conference, the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, once again tried to "convincingly" allay our fears in a vivid way," adds Emrić.
He continues: "He moved from banana peels to airplane flights, specifically transatlantic ones from Europe to America. Then he said: 'If someone stood for 365 days, 24 hours a day, in front of the disposal site wall, they would not receive any radiation. They would be significantly less irradiated than during a flight from Europe to America. It is very important to know these facts. Croatia has no interest in endangering itself or friendly Bosnia and Herzegovina.'"
"This is truly fascinatingly said! What will they come up with next??? We will see. But, I must admit, they are very convincing and caring, so when Prime Minister Plenković says that Croatia has no interest in endangering itself or friendly Bosnia and Herzegovina, then I only believe him for the first part. Croatia has already shown that they do not want to endanger themselves, which is why they are bringing their radioactive and nuclear waste to our border. And they couldn't care less about us because, in every document so far, they have "expertly" concluded in advance that the storage/disposal site for radioactive and nuclear waste will have no negative cross-border impact," states the parliamentarian from the People's European Party.
As he says, 'So now we know that they are our best neighbors and friends because they don't want to endanger us.'"
"With Croatian radioactive and nuclear waste, we don't need to worry. There is no radiation according to Plenković. We can freely stand for 365 days, 24 hours a day, next to that radioactive waste and consume it relaxed, even better with a barbecue, without receiving any radiation.
It is interesting how much the head of the Government of the Republic of Croatia simplifies and minimizes the danger of radioactive and nuclear waste disposal, when he justifies their intention to establish a Center for Radioactive Waste Management or a nuclear facility near our homes and yards, which poses a permanent threat to security and the environment, including the health of the population. And to all of that, he says that the location is in a hilly and uninhabited area, ignoring 250,000 inhabitants in friendly Bosnia and Herzegovina, and ignoring friendly Bosanski Novi, whose drinking water sources are only a few hundred meters from that location," said Emrić, explaining: "But who cares? Plenković certainly doesn't, because he says that contamination of groundwater would be prevented. He just didn't say how? How will they prevent earthquakes? How will they stop floods? None of that matters because when Banija shakes again and Dvor floods, it's only important that it's far from Banski dvori. And for us in friendly Bosnia and Herzegovina, whatever happens, happens.
"Prime Minister Plenković claims that there is no danger for us because it is low and medium-level radioactive waste that emits very little radiation. That is why they are moving it from the storage facility of the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb because it "absolutely does not belong there" and must be moved to a permanent disposal site, right on the border with friendly Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to Plenković and friendly Croatia, that's where it belongs because they have no interest in endangering themselves," concluded Emrić.
