Unknown device explodes: Two killed in Zagreb, one seriously injured

(Patria) - Early this afternoon, an explosion occurred in Zagrebačka Street in Dugo Selo, killing two people. A man and a woman died. One person was seriously injured.

According to Index.hr, an explosive device detonated.

"Today, August 27, around 1:30 PM in Dugo Selo, Zagrebačka Street, an explosion occurred in a facility providing care services for the elderly, in which two people died and one was seriously injured. An investigation is underway," the police stated.

The head of the Dugo Selo Police Station, Davorka Markota, told reporters that they cannot comment on an explosive device or the cause until the investigation is completed.

"Any external attack, terrorist act, or similar is excluded. The event occurred inside a family home, and we will discuss the cause after the investigation is completed," said Markota.

Kristijan Ćupurdija, the on-call surgeon at Dubrava University Hospital, gave a statement to HRT a few minutes after a complex three-hour surgery on the injured man concluded.

He stated that the man was brought in with severe bodily injuries caused by the explosion. They identified injuries to the abdomen and upper extremities, after which they proceeded with surgery.

"We treated the injuries. The patient will be placed in intensive care," he added.

Ćupurdija said it is difficult to estimate the chances of recovery.

"There was significant blood loss, and all of this has consequences for the entire organism. We have to wait a day or two to see how everything will progress," said Ćupurdija.
