Two police officers suspected of raping a woman in a car, arrested after victim reported them

(Patria) - The criminal police service of the Lika-Senj Police Administration has completed criminal investigations into two police officers of the Lika-Senj Police Administration due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they committed a criminal offense against sexual freedom to the detriment of a female person.

As Jutarnji learns, the two police officers are suspected of the criminal offense of rape of a 33-year-old woman. The heinous act took place in a car, and according to verified information, both police officers are older than the victim and have been in the police system for a long time, one for over 10 years, and the other for over 20 years.

Incidentally, one police officer, the older one, was on duty at the time of the crime, and the other was not. It all happened a few weeks ago, and the victim immediately gathered the courage and reported the sexual crime to the police. It did not take long for the police to gather all the necessary evidence for reasonable suspicion, after which the police officers were arrested and processed.

The suspended police duo, after completing the criminal investigation, was handed over to the detention supervisor of the Lika-Senj Police Administration with a criminal complaint to the competent prosecutor's office. The prosecutor's office will further decide on their fate, which needs to question them and then decide whether to request one month of pre-trial detention from the duty investigating judge or whether they will be allowed to defend themselves from freedom in the further course of the proceedings.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs generally does not inform the public about criminal offenses of a sexual nature, however, in this case, they decided to announce the event in two sentences, making it clear that no one is protected within their system.

- We are unable to publish more information about the mentioned event, i.e., the criminal investigation, all with the aim of protecting the victim of the criminal offense from secondary victimization. Due to the suspicion that they committed a more serious violation of official duty, a procedure is being carried out to determine their disciplinary responsibility, and they will be removed from duty today. Although the perpetrators have been arrested and a criminal complaint has been filed against them, such isolated behavior of individuals has caused enormous damage to all members of the police who professionally and responsibly perform their duties for the benefit of all our fellow citizens - emphasize the Lika-Senj Police Administration.

They also note that the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the Lika-Senj Police Administration, have a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of abuse of women and strongly condemn such behavior.

- To some extent, we are reassured by the fact that the victim maintained trust in the police and reported the case precisely to the Lika-Senj Police Administration, after which all necessary measures and actions of the criminal investigation were carried out - conclude the police.
