(Patria) - The Croatian Firefighting Association has released the latest data on the fire that broke out in Šibenik. The fire has also engulfed houses in Grebaštica, prompting the evacuation of families whose homes are threatened or affected by the fire.
Residents of the affected area are being transported from the location by Ministry of Interior vehicles to the Morinj Bridge near Brodarica, then by bus to the sports hall in Šibenik's Baldekin district, where accommodation has been provided for them.
"The situation is not good, firefighters are among the houses trying to save what can be saved. The wind is still making our job difficult. The numbers of firefighters and vehicles on the ground are changing by the minute. We do not have figures on damaged structures yet; we will see the total damage later. Right now we are trying to save one building; it is burning on the third floor, so we have broken down the door to try to save the structure," said Volimir Milošević, commander of the Šibenik Public Fire Brigade, as reported by Index.hr.
The Ministry of Defense has confirmed that a fifth water-bombing plane has been sent to the fire site near Grebaštica, meaning all available planes from the ministry have been deployed, and a total of seven aircraft are now fighting the fire.
Firefighting teams from Split have also been dispatched to the scene.
The fire has caused a traffic collapse on the road from Šibenik towards Split.
Additionally, a large number of cars have been destroyed in the fire.
