Dodik: I hope Croatia will prioritize the Trgovska Gora issue

(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, assessed the decision of the Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy to build a radioactive waste disposal center at the location of Čerkezovac on Trgovska Gora as unacceptable.

Dodik welcomed all activities undertaken by the governments of Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH, state institutions, cantons, and municipalities, and believes that additional diplomatic efforts are necessary, as well as the use of all available legal means to prevent the radioactive waste disposal center from being built at that location.

"I expect Croatia to prioritize this issue and contribute to its resolution in the spirit of good neighborly relations," Dodik emphasized.

Dodik recalled that one of the first initiatives he launched after taking over the position of Chairman of the BiH Presidency, after the October 2018 elections, was to put on the agenda the issue of resolving radioactive waste disposal on the slopes of Trgovska Gora, according to the office of the BiH Presidency member.

"Considering that the disposal of radioactive waste at the Čerkezovac location would endanger the lives of about 250,000 citizens of Republika Srpska and BiH from 13 municipalities located in the Una River basin, the BiH Presidency launched a series of activities in March 2019, in accordance with its competencies, for Croatia to secure another location for radioactive waste disposal within its territory, which does not border the territory of BiH," Dodik stated.
