Director of the Gerontology Center in Sarajevo still doesn't know when the test results will be available

(Patria) - Of the 116 employees at the Gerontology Center in Nedžarići, a portion were tested for coronavirus today, specifically 40 healthcare workers at this center. The testing followed after an eighty-six-year-old resident of this center was confirmed to have coronavirus infection, and she was transferred to the General Hospital prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš in the morning.

Melisa Alibašić Hadžić, director of the Gerontology Center in Sarajevo, had previously appealed to the relevant authorities to come and test the employees for COVID-19, because, as she says for the Patria news agency, she doesn't understand what the problem was, given that her staff works with the most vulnerable part of the population.

She still doesn't know when the test results will be available.

"We banned visits in mid-January due to the flu epidemic. Then we banned residents from going out and bringing anything into the facility. We introduced disinfection of vehicles, workers, and employees no longer change clothes in the facility but in the basement. The workers behave as if these are their parents. I appeal to them to behave that way. Home - work, everyone respects that. We haven't had a problem so far," the director said earlier.

Many private homes, and some public ones, have introduced 15-day shifts, as this way the elderly are protected, and the possibility of virus transmission is reduced.

"I suggested that, but since we are a public institution, we could not do that by law. I have employees who are mothers, and I was prepared for that, but legally it is not possible," said Alibašić Hadžić.

When asked if this could not have been introduced even in these circumstances of a state of emergency, the director answered affirmatively.

"Employees could sue us. We have truly done everything in our power," she added.
