Graduate Economist from Zagreb Arrested in Belgium with as Much as 2.7 Tons of Cocaine!

(Patria) - A special unit of the Belgian federal police arrested a 36-year-old from Zagreb, T.Š., a graduate economist who ran several companies in Croatia, a week ago on suspicion of having, together with several other individuals of various nationalities, transported a shipment of 2.7 tons of cocaine to that country.

During the raid on the warehouse, the cocaine was packed in jute bags that had just been unloaded from a container, which had previously been collected at the terminal of the port of Antwerp.

T.Š. ran companies in Croatia

The drugs were seized, and all those arrested, about twenty of them, were detained, and the local state prosecutor's office launched an investigation against them.

This is the largest single seizure of cocaine ever linked to a Croatian citizen. Along with T.Š., citizens of Belgium, the Netherlands, Armenia, Latvia, Morocco, and Ukraine were arrested, and the Belgian police, of course, did not disclose the circumstances under which this diverse group came together.

However, according to information released by the local police, the suspicious container was discovered while still in the port of Antwerp, and officers waited to see who would come to collect it.

After the container was transported to a warehouse, the police surrounded it, and then, in the early morning hours of last Monday, raided the warehouse, where they found a total of 11 men and one minor unloading the drugs, including T.Š.

The Croatian police, as Jutarnji List unofficially learns, were informed by their Belgian colleagues about the arrest of T.Š., but Jutarnji was unable to determine whether the Croatian police were also involved in the operation that resulted in the seizure.

Incidentally, T.Š. is a person who has never been criminally or misdemeanor prosecuted in Croatia, but has managed or owned several small companies, and in his younger days successfully played futsal and participated in several tournaments.

Incidentally, Belgian authorities seized 110 tons of cocaine last year alone, mostly arriving through the port of Antwerp.

Balkan cartel in Spain caught with more than two tons of cocaine

Almost simultaneously, in the Spanish port city of Vigo, 2.3 tons of cocaine were seized. The local police, in cooperation with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), found the cocaine hidden on a fishing boat. Five people were arrested, and according to police, the drugs belong to the so-called Balkan cartel.

The police intercepted the cocaine-laden boat about 40 nautical miles from Vigo, arresting four crew members on board, and later another man who was monitoring the cargo. He fled to Madrid but was eventually found in a hotel and arrested.

The police also raided an apartment in La Coruña, where they seized a luxury car and about 200,000 euros.

The Spanish police stated that the smugglers transported the drugs using container ships, later transferring them to smaller vessels. It was determined that the Balkan cartel intended to use Spanish ports as transit points for transporting cocaine from South America.
