(Patria) - Ten thousand people in Croatia are receiving calls from the Ministry of Defence at their home addresses. They are required to report to Regional Defence Offices for war assignment determination.
The Ministry of Defence explained to Dnevnik.hr that these are regular activities related to the reserve component of the Croatian Armed Forces.
"Classified reservists are called to Regional Defence Offices to be informed of their assignment for the formation of reserve units of the Croatian Armed Forces.
Most of those called are assigned to reserve units of the Croatian Armed Forces, but their assignments could not be communicated during 2020, 2021, and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic," the Ministry of Defence stated in its response.
Around ten thousand classified reservists will be called during March, April, and May of this year, they added.
The calls have caused concern among some citizens given the uncertain circumstances while the war in Europe is ongoing. The Constitution, the Law on Civil Service, and the Defence Law guarantee the right to conscientious objection.
