Cvijanović with Milanović: Dayton is the foundation of BiH and sufficient protection for all citizens

(Patria) - Chairwoman of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović stated today in Zagreb that commitment to respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement, which provides sufficient protection for all citizens in BiH, is important, and that she appreciates the respect coming from political representatives of Croatia.

She stated that the meeting with Croatian President Zoran Milanović was very constructive, all with the aim of achieving common goals, namely stability and peace in the region.

"The talks were aimed at better understanding and focused on realizing foreign trade exchange and projects that will serve to improve the lives of our citizens," Cvijanović stated.

She emphasized that she is grateful for Milanović's approach and his commitment to the Dayton Peace Agreement, which, as she pointed out, provides sufficient protection of the rights of Serbs, Croats, and Bosniaks, as well as others living in BiH.

"In BiH, we must all feel good and comfortable, and for that to happen, we must enjoy the rights we have under the Constitution and certainly Croatia's approach to preserving the Dayton Agreement, as well as developing good neighborly relations. That is one of the things I point out in our dialogue," she stated.

Milanović said that today's meeting discussed BiH's European path, the importance of peace and stability in the region, as well as the position of Croats in BiH.

"The meeting came about based on talks a few weeks ago. I think this is the right time and a good way. Relations with the previous Presidency were not ideal, during my term. It is time to open a new chapter. BiH as we see it, as I see it, is a subject of international law based on Dayton. It is the foundation of BiH. If that is tampered with, only evil can come from it. This is not a perfect situation. Stability in the region, peace, predictability, BiH's European path if it wants it, and I see that it does. And last but not least - the position of Croats. One constituent people, not as some minority. Although minorities in Croatia have a good status. So be it. For Croats in BiH, we expect their status to be dignified, equal to the status of Bosniaks and Serbs. I am ready to talk about this with anyone who shows a minimum of common sense and good intentions, and with Mrs. Cvijanović and her political circle in BiH, I see a slightly greater amount of common sense and goodwill. Thank you once again and welcome to Croatia," Milanović said.

Cvijanović will also meet today with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
