SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The national SOS line for victims of domestic violence recorded a 20 percent increase in calls in Montenegro in March, says Nikšić coordinator Nataša Međedović.
In the last week, the SOS line received 69 calls, which, according to her, is about 20 percent more compared to the previous week.
"This situation negatively affects people with experience of violence and worsens their situation," said Međedović, as a guest on TVCG's Morning Program, CdM reports.
She states that the new statistics during the period of home isolation did not surprise her.
"The current situation helps in preventing the pandemic, but it is terrifying for many women and children," says Međedović.
She adds that for victims of domestic violence, home isolation means helplessness.
"This is just the beginning, and in the coming period, we can expect an escalation and an increased number of calls," warns Međedović.
The national SOS line for victims of domestic violence – 080 111-111, is a constantly available telephone service that is free and anonymous.
Victims of violence can count on free psychological and legal assistance.
"However, at this moment, only urgent cases of domestic violence are being resolved by institutions," states Međedović.
She also warns that for many women and children, home is not a home.
"Not every house is a home," concluded Međedović.
