Čović and Vučić Discuss Relations between Croatia and Serbia

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić also spoke today with the Croatian member of the BiH Presidency, Dragan Čović, with the message that good relations between Serbs and Croats are necessary.

Emphasizing that good cooperation between Serbs and Croats in BiH will continue, Vučić said that this is something "good and important in a time of not exactly enviable stability."

- We will do everything to preserve peace and regional stability - Vučić told reporters after the meeting with Čović.

He said that Serbia and Republika Srpska have the best possible relations and will continue to do so, and that Serbia respects the integrity of BiH.

The Croatian member of the BiH Presidency, Dragan Čović, assessed today that relations between Serbia and Croatia will no longer be tense very soon, pointing out that the election campaign in that country will be completed next week.

He emphasized, in response to a journalist's question in the Government of Serbia after the meeting with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, that many have gained political points and positions by raising tensions.

- Therefore, I would not comment on that, and it is my obligation to care for Croats in BiH, and relations between Serbs and Croats in Croatia will be much better very soon and will fall into place - said Čović.

He stated that this region has a future, as well as many things that connect the peoples in these regions, and expressed hope that there will not be many things that divide us.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Vučić, together with President Tomislav Nikolić, met with Serb political leaders from Republika Srpska, regarding the crisis caused by the announcement of a referendum in RS and the negative reactions of the international community.

Nikolić and Vučić stated that they did not support the holding of the referendum, but in no way did they want to influence the change of political views of the legitimately elected politicians in RS. That is, they did not oppose its holding.

Čović said that he was not at all surprised by the decisions on the referendum, nor by Serbia's stance on the issue.

- I believe that the decisions made by neither the Constitutional Court of BiH nor the Peace Implementation Council in BiH should be commented on. Even if the referendum is held, nothing will change, because excessive tensions have been created - Čović pointed out.
