Throughout Serbia last night, there were no major changes in water levels. According to forecasts, heavier rainfall is expected to start tonight, prompting teams from the Ministry of Interior's Emergency Situations Sector and the Serbian Army to be on increased alert, reports the Patria News Agency.
As stated by the Head of the Emergency Situations Sector, Predrag Marić, to Tanjug, the situation has not changed since yesterday, as last night's rainfall was mostly of weaker intensity.
“What has been announced by the Republic Hydrometeorological Service, by colleagues from Brussels and the Russian side, is that heavier rainfall will start today and intensify by 9 PM tonight. We have been in a state of full alert for the past 48 hours. All our teams, army and police teams, are on increased alert, and the situation is being monitored hour by hour,” explained Marić.
He added that the Serbian Government's operational staff has been in session for 48 hours and is permanently monitoring and collecting data from the field.
“Decisions on response will be made based on this,” said Marić, who reminded that 171 people have been evacuated so far and 710 facilities are endangered.
