We are waiting to see Vučić's stance towards Bosniaks

The newly elected president of the Islamic Community’s Meshihat in Serbia, Mevlud ef. Dudić, stated in an interview with the BH news agency Patria (NAP), that certain processes are currently underway in Serbia, but that the position of Bosniaks in democratic Serbia still resembles the era of Slobodan Milošević.

Bosniaks in Serbia, he said, will be satisfied only when Serbia resolves at least the key problems that burden them in this country, which relate to the establishment of a single Islamic Community, the return of waqf property, and the halting of the expulsion of Bosniak religious teachers from schools...

- Serbia directly participated in the breakup of the Islamic Community in Serbia. But, Serbia must be aware that Muslims in this country will never be happy as long as they do not have a unified Islamic Community in Serbia – Dudić said.

Furthermore, he explained, the Serbian Orthodox Church has had nearly 50 percent of its property returned, the Catholic Church has had more than 30 percent returned, while not a single percent of confiscated waqfs has been returned to the Islamic Community to date. All of this is happening even though the law on the return of confiscated property was adopted back in 2006.

Moreover, Dudić says, in the past period, more than 90 religious teachers have been expelled from primary and secondary schools in Serbia.

When asked if Bosniaks in Serbia can expect a more favorable position from the government of Aleksandar Vučić, mufti Dudić said that he does not want to attach any epithets to Vučić until he himself concretely shows his attitude towards Bosniaks in Serbia.

- It is Vučić's move now. We are waiting to see what his stance towards us will be – Dudić said.

The mufti of the Meshihat of the Islamic Community in Serbia concluded at the end that without a strong Islamic Community, both in Serbia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is no survival for Bosniaks in these regions.
