Čanak on the appointment of Vulin as head of Serbia's BIA: Head of the local KGB for Serbian lands

(Patria) - „Head of the local KGB for Serbian lands. Putin will drag this country into hell together with Russia, which will not exist after him. And everyone will claim they were against it, but no one listened to them. Those who live to see it will witness it“, wrote former president of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina Nenad Čanak regarding the appointment of Aleksandar Vulin as head of Serbia's intelligence agency BIA.

The appointment of Vulin to this responsible position was sharply criticized by the opposition and the Serbian press.

Vulin, the minister of defense and police chosen by Aleksandar Vučić, is criticized for incompetence, ties to criminal groups, crime, and closeness to Russia, which he has never hidden.

The appointment of an open sympathizer of the Kremlin at a time when crises are emerging in the region and Europe has worried many. Vulin himself, from the positions he held, often directed harsh words and insults at other peoples and states.

"The selection of Aleksandar Vulin as the new director of BIA represents a scandalous move by Aleksandar Vučić and the ruling party, who have placed a man without a milligram of credibility in charge of state security. His political activity over the years has shown that he is an unstable person, of questionable moral principles, involved in a series of scandalous events including physical assaults in Belgrade restaurants," said the vice-president of the Party of Freedom and Justice, Marinika Tepić, and continued:

"Aleksandar Vulin is a man who would not pass security checks in any normal country. Citizens of Serbia, as well as all political dissidents of this government, have every right to be concerned about what illegal methods of surveillance and wiretapping this former closest associate of Mirjana Marković, and today, as he presents himself, the best friend of Aleksandar Vučić, could use.

Vulin, who is also the creator of the phrase about the Serbian world, a public official who from the highest state positions has for years fanned national hatred and intolerance towards all those who think differently, has already scandalized the world public when it was proven that during his tenure as minister of the Interior, surveillance and wiretapping of Russian opposition figures Andrei Pivovarov and Vladimir Kara-Murza was carried out while they were in Belgrade in 2021.

He took those recordings to Russia and handed them personally to the secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev. After that, both Russian opposition figures were arrested, and Pivovarov has already been sentenced to five years in prison. Therefore, it is not unusual that Vulin's entry into BIA could be treated as the beginning of turning this service into an Informbiro.

Although Vulin has already held high ministerial positions several times, remembered only for his inglorious roles in defending a marijuana plantation where he personally planted radishes, as well as for the reaction of dogs trained to detect drugs to him, we are deeply convinced that this latest appointment shows that Serbia is rushing into a dictatorship where all means will be allowed in the fight against political opponents," concluded the vice-president of the Party of Freedom and Justice, Marinika Tepić.
