Ćamil Duraković invited Vučić to adopt a declaration between Bosniaks and Serbs

The leader of the Odgovor movement and former mayor of Srebrenica, Ćamil Duraković, invited the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, not to fall for Milorad Dodik's provocations, and proposed a Declaration on the recognition, tolerance and protection of the cultural identity and native languages of Bosniaks and Serbs, writes the Patria News Agency.

- With this Declaration, we call for the recognition of the Bosnian language as the native language of Bosniaks and the Serbian language as the native language of Serbs, and we call for their equal use, protection and inclusion in the education system.

Let this be the basis for dialogue on the protection of cultural identity, and I invite President Aleksandar Vučić not to fall for the provocations of Milorad Dodik and his "memorandums" which only serve him to escape political defeat.

It is time to jointly emphasize our readiness to fight for the preservation of Cyrillic and Latin as two scripts belonging to the Bosnian and Serbian languages, and we demand from the competent institutions full respect for their equality, status, and historical and cultural significance for Bosniaks, Serbs, but also for all other citizens of these two countries.

We particularly call for the provision of financial resources and all other forms of assistance for the protection of the Bosnian and Serbian languages in parts of these two countries where Bosniaks or Serbs constitute a numerical minority. We must think about everything that needs to be done to protect the Serbian language in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina entity, and to protect the Bosnian language in the Republika Srpska entity and in the Sandžak region in Serbia.

Let our differences be what we bring as value in inter-ethnic dialogue, and our similarities opportunities for restoring trust in building good neighborly relations in the Balkans. By preserving the Bosnian and Serbian languages, aware that we have always understood each other well whenever we truly wanted to talk, we show respect for each other and create the foundations for a peaceful and prosperous future – concluded Ćamil Duraković.
