Turbulent times in Croatia: Tomislav Karamarko resigns as HDZ leader

HDZ leader Tomislav Karamarko stated that he is resigning from the position of party president, writes index.hr, reports Patria.

- I did not resign yesterday due to technical issues, no mystification. Many will be happy about this, many will be sorry. I take this opportunity to thank all HDZ members who derive no material benefit from our party, who never expected sinecures or personal gain. I thank the thousands who elected me. I also thank all those who are cheering me on, supporting me, sending me messages in recent days, who tried to stop me. Thank you very much for that. I wish for us to consolidate as soon as possible.

I wish my successors to do good work and be successful. In these 4 years, it has regained its dignity. It has gained muscle. Without us on the center-right, there is no strong left, and I think that is important, this bipolarity. Now comes the fight for the economy and the quality of life of the Croatian people. The emigration of people saddens me - says Karamarko.

This Government did not function, Karamarko added, and emphasized that it was a matter of responsibility to end it and say enough. The easiest thing would have been to stay in the armchair of the first Deputy Prime Minister, he said.

Karamarko's resignation followed his resignation from the position of first Deputy Prime Minister and, as he himself said, after he failed to reshuffle the ruling majority after HDZ, along with the opposition, overthrew Tihomir Orešković's Government.
