Brnabić for The Guardian: Serbia is heading towards the EU, changing rapidly and has no time to lose

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić stated that Serbia is "a country that has no time to lose", which is changing rapidly and heading towards the European Union, which is why her government will focus on reforms dedicated to the rule of law.

"Serbia is changing and it is changing rapidly, and if you want, I am part of those changes, but I do not want to be branded as 'the Serbian gay prime minister'. We need to send a message about (the importance of) expertise, professionalism, and reliability," Brnabić told the British Guardian, in her first interview for a foreign newspaper after taking office, reported by the Beta agency.

The Serbian Prime Minister reiterated that Serbia's strategic goal is EU membership, but that this does not require abandoning its traditional friendship with Russia.

"Without any doubt, we are heading towards the EU. Our relationship with Russia is deep and historical, we are connected by a common tradition and religion. We have never been asked to choose one of these two sides," said Brnabić.

The Serbian Prime Minister emphasized the continuity of her government with the governments of her predecessor, now Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, and stated that administrative changes and reforms in the area of the rule of law are a priority.

"During the first three years, we focused on the economy, in order to steer the Titanic away from the iceberg of bankruptcy. If we do not have the rule of law and an efficient and transparent judiciary, everything else will begin to collapse," Brnabić told The Guardian, reports the Patria agency.
