High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated on Monday in Brussels that after many hours of talks, Belgrade and Pristina did not reach an agreement, as earlier confirmed by Aleksandar Vučić.
- We presented a proposal that could have prevented the risky situation, which Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić accepted, but Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti did not - Borrell said.
Due to the crisis caused by license plates in Kosovo, Borrell held separate meetings with Vučić and Kurti today, followed by a trilateral meeting between the EU, Serbia, and Kosovo, with the EU also represented by the Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajčák.
After the meeting, Borrell said he expects Kosovo to immediately suspend further phases regarding vehicle re-registration, and Serbia to suspend the issuance of new license plates that Kosovo sees as a problem, including the plates.
- I call on both sides to respect these demands - Borrell emphasized, stating that this will provide space and time to find a sustainable solution to this issue.
He stated that the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue will remain high on his agenda.
- I will inform member states and our partners about the behavior of the parties in these talks and the lack of respect for international legal obligations, and this primarily applies to Kosovo. This is a particularly negative political signal - Borrell pointed out.
