Asphalting of Safvet-beg Bašagić Street next year

Safvet-beg Bašagić Street, one of the longest and busiest streets in the Old Town, leading from Baščaršija Square all the way to below Grličića brdo, will be renovated and asphalted. As this is a project that requires significant investment, the renovation will be carried out in three parts, reports Patria.

According to the Mayor of the Old Town Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, this is a project that will begin next year, and activities on preparing the project documentation have already been initiated.

- Given that the draft budget of the Old Town Municipality for 2017 is being prepared, we will allocate funds for Safvet-beg Bašagić Street because it is one of the priorities, and we promised that to the citizens. As this involves financially significant investments, we will not be able to do everything in one year, so we will work in phases. Next year, we will start work on the upper part of the street, from the former 'Nose' car dealership - Hadžibajrić said. He explained that the works would be carried out in three phases.

According to information from the Service for Communal Affairs, the part of Safvet-beg Street to be worked on is over 900 meters long, and it is planned to lay new asphalt, raise manholes, valves, and grates, as well as new sidewalks whose level will prevent car parking. The first phase will cover the section from Mihrivode Street to the intersection with Pirin brijeg Street, a length of 275 meters. The second phase will cover 364 meters of the street from Pirin brijeg to Ulomljenica Street, and the third from Ulomljenica to Bakija, a length of 266 meters. The value of all works will exceed 750,000 KM.
