Ambassador Complains: Netherlands Remains Holland in Serbia

(Patria) - The Dutch ambassador to Serbia, Gilles Beschoor Plug, stated that his country will continue to be called Holland in Serbia.

"It seems there is a small problem regarding the official name of my country: Netherlands. Yes, we will stop using the popular name Holland, but we respect languages in which there is no accepted translation. In Serbia, we will continue to be called Holland," the ambassador wrote on his Twitter account.

The Committee for the Standardization of the Serbian language took an official stance on Friday, January 10, that the name Holland will continue to be used in Serbia, even though this European kingdom decided to use exclusively the name Netherlands as of January 1.
