German Ambassador: European proposal does not envision a "Republika Srpska" in Kosovo

(Patria) - The German-French plan proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia does not envision any "Republika Srpska in Kosovo", stated the German Ambassador to Kosovo Jörn Rohde.

- There is a previously undertaken obligation by Kosovo to form the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM). However, we have openly and very clearly stated that we do not want a 'Republika Srpska' in Kosovo. What I would like now is for Kosovo to fulfill the obligation it has accepted and propose the statute for the CSM - Rohde said in an interview for Radio Kosovo.

According to him, Kosovo must show readiness to discuss the CSM.

He states that Germany is generally satisfied with the positive results of the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo and expects decisive progress.

When asked if the European plan will resolve the problems between Serbia and Kosovo, Rohde said that they have made it clear that this is only an intermediate step on the path to full and comprehensive normalization.

- The essence of this plan is, so to speak, to get the train on the right tracks, and if the agreement is implemented, then we will have moved closer to the goal, because it is de facto recognition of Kosovo by Serbia - claims Rohde.

The German diplomat assesses that there is a timeframe for the implementation of this agreement.

- The Prime Minister (of Kosovo) Albin Kurti and the President of Serbia (Aleksandar Vučić) will meet on March 18 in Ohrid, and we hope that in the next ten days there will be decisive progress to clarify the mechanism for implementing the agreement.

Therefore, we ask the political leaders here to be responsible for this situation and reach a compromise for the good of their countries and their populations - added Ambassador Rohde.
