(Patria) - Aleksandar Vulin has resigned as Director of the Security Information Agency. Vulin has been on the US sanctions list since July 11. He is accused of corruption, involvement in drug trafficking.
In a statement, Vulin thanked Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić for the "opportunity to defend Serbs and Serbia", and asked him to remain the "president of all Serbs".
"President Aleksandar Vučić and Serbia are facing threats and blackmail comparable only to the Austro-Hungarian ultimatum of 1914. We are asked to recognize Kosovo, to abandon Republika Srpska, and by imposing sanctions on the Russian Federation, to cease being a sovereign country and nation. If we were to agree to do so, the next demand would be the expulsion of Chinese investments, unconditional technological and economic dependence on the West, as well as the continuation of the political and territorial disintegration of Serbia and the acceptance of Western values in which there is no place for the traditional family and nation, and ultimately no place for social justice," Vulin stated in his announcement.
He accused the US and the EU of "demanding his head" as a prerequisite for not imposing sanctions on Serbia.
"I am not the cause of the blackmail and pressure on Serbia and the Serb world, but I will not allow myself to be the reason for blackmail and pressure on Serbia. Therefore, I am submitting an irrevocable resignation from the position of BIA Director. The sanctions imposed on me are proof of my persistent fight for the unity of Serbs, but the imposition of sanctions on Serbia, which would be facilitated by my continued leadership of the BIA, would be proof of my selfishness. The first indicator of the correctness of my decision will be the hypocritical statements of US and EU officials in which they will swear that they never intended to impose penalties and sanctions on us. My resignation will not change the policy of the US and EU towards Serbia, but it will slow down new demands and blackmail. They did not get sanctions against Russia, they did not get Serbian recognition of Kosovo, but they got one Serbian head," Vulin stated, among other things.
