(Patria) - Activist Aida Ćorović has been convicted by the Misdemeanor Court for "disturbing public order and peace" when she threw eggs at the graffiti of war criminal Ratko Mladić in Belgrade in November 2021.
Ćorović announced on her Facebook profile that she has to pay a fine of 100,000 dinars.
"I have long since paved my way, I didn't know how much it would cost me, but if I could go back, I would always choose the same scenario," Ćorović wrote, as reported by RSE.
Before the hearing on March 22, 2022, she told reporters that she did not feel guilty and that the court's reasoning stated that she "threw eggs at the building and cursed at the police officers".
- Together with Jelena (activist Jelena Jaćimović), I made a symbolic gesture related to a convicted war criminal, and the state should prosecute those who do that (draw murals), not me who points out such a problem in this country - Ćorović said at the time.
On November 9, 2021, on the International Day Against Fascism, Aida Ćorović threw several eggs at Ratko Mladić's mural in protest, for which she was detained.
Previously, the police had banned the removal of the mural, which was announced by non-governmental activists, stating that there was a risk of physical conflict between supporters and opponents of the announced gathering.
Ćorović was released the same evening after protests by non-governmental organizations and citizens.
The mural depicting war criminal Ratko Mladić appeared in the center of Belgrade in the summer of 2021, a month after he was sentenced to life imprisonment in The Hague for war crimes and genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
