Minute of silence for victims in Aleppo: 57 children from Bosnia and Herzegovina are in Syria

Within the framework of parliamentary questions, Borislav Bojić, SDS deputy, asked Dragan Mektić, Minister of Security of BiH, for precise data on the number of BiH citizens currently in combat zones outside BiH, and how many have returned to BiH, writes Patria.

Mektić stated that a total of 226 adult citizens of BiH have so far been present in the Syrian-Iraqi combat zone.

- Currently, there are 115 BiH citizens in Syria, and this is the operational data we have. Of these 115 in the Syrian-Iraqi combat zone, 65 are adult males and 56 are adult females from BiH. In this part of the combat zone, 65 citizens of BiH have died out of the total number, and 46 citizens of BiH have returned. Children are not included in this number, as a number of them left with their families. According to our data, there are 57 minor children. Every single one of these 46 individuals, and 20 of them have been prosecuted, meaning court sentences have been passed, and for 26 individuals, some form of legal process is ongoing – Mektić stated.

None of these 46 individuals returned without being operationally monitored. Last year, only one woman went to Syria, for the purpose of entering into a Sharia marriage with a citizen of Serbia.

Although Bojić also requested data on the number of BiH citizens in the Ukrainian combat zone, Mektić did not provide such data. 

Otherwise, at the proposal of deputy Maja Gasal Vražalica, parliamentarians today paid tribute to the victims in Aleppo with a minute of silence.
