(Patria) – The Cantonal Court in Odžak rendered a final verdict rejecting the Prosecutor's appeal and confirming the acquittal of former police officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton, Tarik Omerović.
As confirmed to Patria by his lawyer Mirna Avdibegović, this concluded a multi-year process during which Omerović had to prove that he acted in accordance with the law and his authority.
We remind you that Omerović was accused after, during a regular patrol, he stopped a car in which Mujaga Begić and his wife Mirzeta Begić, then Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Tuzla Canton Prosecutor's Office, were travelling.
After arresting the driver for insolent behaviour, it was precisely the prosecutor Begić who reported him, which led to his arrest, disciplinary proceedings, and years of criminal prosecution.
Today, Mirzeta Begić still holds the position of Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the TK Prosecutor's Office, while Tarik Omerović, after everything he went through, has left Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Five years later, the final verdict confirms that he acted lawfully. However, the question remains open – who will be held accountable for the injustice, damage, and consequences that Omerović suffered?
