Vucic in Brussels: Everyone has their interests, and Serbia fights for theirs

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated today in Brussels that he had a good meeting with the EU Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Miroslav Lajcak and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the USA Matthew Palmer, and emphasized that he believes the talks in Brussels will yield results.

Vucic said that all important topics were discussed and that the official dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina will continue on Monday, RTS reports.

"Today we have important meetings of our teams and I believe there will be results," Vucic said, emphasizing that the three key topics in the continuation of the dialogue are missing persons, internally displaced persons, and the economy, building on what was discussed in Washington.

"I have no problem praising the agreement from Washington and the faster flow of goods, capital, and people to EU representatives. How to use this and how to improve relations, not to see each other as enemies, but to work for the benefit of people, both Serbs and Albanians," said the leader of Serbia.

Vucic emphasized that these talks are never easy, that concrete matters are discussed, and that the public will be informed of the details when it is clear whether the documents are harmonized and whether they can reach an agreement.

For Serbia, he says, the arrival of the US financing agency and the establishment of a "mini Schengen" are significant.

"Many in the region present this as Serbian hegemony, but it has nothing to do with that, but with the faster flow of goods, better economic results, and higher salaries. That is what we advocate for. Those who like to live in the past and try at all costs to see how to oppose others, those are their problems," Vucic stated.

The Serbian President said that Europe is leading the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue on all political relations, and that Serbia accepted this earlier.

"Would I have accepted it in 2009? No, but it was voted on in the UN General Assembly. We are on the European path and we believe in our European partners," Vucic stressed.

In the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, the Serbian President expects the issue of the Community of Serb Municipalities to be opened and to see if Pristina is ready to fulfill its agreed obligations.

"We understand the political games of others"

When asked by journalists, Vucic commented on the statement of former Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt that he did not know what was written in the agreement, as well as the photos published on Twitter by Maria Zakharova, but also the assessments of TV Al Jazeera that this was his most successful week, from the victory in Montenegro to the victory in Washington, and that the keys to the Balkans were handed over to Serbia, which, as he emphasized, he would not agree with, although it would impress someone.

"We have had difficult days ahead of us, and we still have difficult days ahead of us," Vucic emphasized, adding that regarding his sitting in the Oval Office of the White House, there is nothing they have done that a part of the public in Serbia has not spoken all the worst about.

Vucic also stated that he understands the political games in which someone wants to say that another Muslim country, referring to Kosovo, will recognize Israel, but that one should wait, because Israel must first make a decision regarding Kosovo.

He also adds that he would like to see what the Turkish President will say to Hashim Thaci or Avdullah Hoti if they open an embassy in Jerusalem, which is something Turkey resents Serbia for.
