In Potočari, funeral prayer for 14 genocide victims was held

(Patria) - In the Memorial Center in Potočari, a funeral prayer was held for 14 genocide victims, after which the burial of the victims began in the Potočari cemetery. Before the funeral prayer, "Srebrenica Inferno" was performed. Several thousand people attended the funeral prayer.

The Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community (IZ) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein-ef. Kavazović, led the funeral prayer and delivered a short speech.

"The genocide in Srebrenica is a milestone for our future. We are here to remember and offer prayers. But we are also here to renew our covenant with God that we will never again allow evil to go unpunished. That we will make our country proud. Let us rise above greed and selfishness. We do not lose hope in the courage of the sons and daughters of Bosnia. We will not allow the dishonorable to discourage us on the path to truth. If we believe that only truth can save us, we will find our way to healing," said Reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović.

„Today we are here again, visiting our martyrs, in a sea of white tombstones, which remind us of the purity of their souls and the innocence of their hearts. We are here for them, to remember them and offer prayers to the Almighty for them. But, we are also here for us, the living, to renew our covenant with God, our fathers, and our land, that we will never again allow anyone to commit the crime of genocide against our people with impunity. We are here to pledge that we will make our country free, strong, and proud, a place of peace and coexistence for all its people,“ said Reis-ul-ulema in his address.

Reis-ul-ulema called to look at the white tombstones, their upright and proud stance.

„These are exclamation marks that warn us. Let us rise above our petty selfishness, greed, and conceit. May their whiteness be strong and inspiring enough for us to make our small lives into great and strong wheels of our peace, security, and future. What we see before us is what awaits us if we do not take care of ourselves. We do not lose hope in the courage of the sons and daughters of Bosnia, in God's mercy and historical justice. And therefore, we will not allow the dishonorable to discourage us on the path of truth,“ emphasized Reis-ul-ulema.

He stressed that Srebrenica is a place of our suffering, but that together we can make it a place of peace; a place of hope and encouragement for all of us; a place of truth for the victims and justice for the perpetrators and for those who protect and glorify them.

„If we believe that only truth can save us, we will find our way
to healing. We also call on those who bear moral responsibility for the committed crime to find the strength within themselves and bravely and publicly stand on the side of truth and justice,“ said Reis-ul-ulema Husein-ef. Kavazović.
