In Potočari, the remains of 33 victims of the Srebrenica genocide will be buried this year

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The remains of 33 victims of the genocide committed in 1995 in Srebrenica will be buried in the cemetery of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center on July 11 this year.

The remains were transferred from the Commemorative Center in Tuzla to the premises of JKP „Gradska groblja“ Visoko, from where they will be transported to Potočari on July 9.

If any family decides to bury the remains of a victim before the funeral or the farewell ceremony, this will be enabled.

The youngest victim to be buried in Potočari this year is Osman Cvrk, born in 1979. He was a minor at the time of his murder, only 16 years old.

The oldest victim to be buried this year is Šaha Cvrk; she was 82 years old when she was murdered and is also the only woman to be buried in Potočari this year.

Father and son, Zaim and Fuad Pilav, will also find their final rest this year. Brothers Mujić, Fahrudin (25) and Zijo (28), as well as brothers Isaković, will also be buried.

Asim Isaković was 20 years old at the time of his murder, while his brother Kasim was only two years older.

There are still 140 identified victims at the Podrinje Identification Center in Tuzla, but mostly due to the incompleteness of the remains, families have not yet decided on burial.

Among them are 38 victims who have been officially identified by DNA analysis and by families, while the rest are identified solely by DNA analysis.

So far, 6,610 victims of the genocide have found their final rest in the cemetery of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, and more than 1,000 missing persons from Srebrenica are being searched for.
