In KS three cases of measles confirmed in children from the same kindergarten

(Patria) - In Sarajevo Canton, three cases of measles have been confirmed, Ademir Spahić from JU Dom zdravlja KS confirmed to N1. These are three children from a kindergarten in the municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo. They are unvaccinated children.

"Colleagues at KCUS have confirmed this, all children are under control, epidemiologists are also monitoring for any further cases," said Spahić.

Yesterday, a meeting of representatives from the Public Health Institute of Sarajevo Canton, the Ministry of Health of KS, the KS Health Center, the KS Emergency Medical Aid Institute, the General Hospital “Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš” and the University Clinical Center Sarajevo was held due to the appearance of suspected measles cases. Protocols for action in case of an epidemic declaration in KS have been clearly defined.

"If an epidemic occurs, it is inevitable," states Spahić, and the reason is the low vaccination rate among children in KS.

"In only two municipalities, Ilijaš and Stari Grad, we have about a thousand children who are not vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. When you consider the other municipalities in KS, it will certainly exceed several thousand."

They emphasize that if a child has been in contact with an infected person and is not vaccinated, they can be brought for vaccination within 72 hours. Doctors once again appeal to parents to adhere to the vaccination schedule and protect their children in time to avoid the development of more severe clinical pictures.

An epidemic of measles has been declared in Tuzla Canton, and several children have developed severe clinical symptoms.
