In Čović's federalization of BiH, Republika Srpska "no one dares to touch"

The idea of dividing Bosnia and Herzegovina into four federal units has not found support from any Serb or Bosniak political party, but, as Večernje novosti learns, there is no agreement among Croatian parties in BiH either, reports the Patria news agency.

In the Declaration of the Croatian National Assembly, adopted a few days ago, which calls for a new international conference for BiH and a new Constitution of BiH, as well as the federalization of BiH and the formation of four federal units, it is nowhere mentioned what these federal units would look like, and especially whether one of them would be Republika Srpska.

According to Novosti’s sources close to Croatian parties in Mostar, the biggest disagreements among Croatian parties are precisely about whether Republika Srpska should remain one federal unit, or whether a recomposition of BiH would be made in which part of its current territory would be disputed.

Namely, HDZ BiH, led by Dragan Čović, a member of the BiH Presidency, which is close to Milorad Dodik's SNSD, believes that future BiH should have four federal units, one of which would be Republika Srpska, and the other three would be in the territory of the Federation of BiH, one of which would necessarily have to be with a Croatian majority.

On the other hand, HDZ 1990 believes that in the future recomposition of BiH, "Republika Srpska could not remain whole and part of its territory would have to be included".

- There is a difference in views on future federalization. While some advocate for the federalization of only the Federation of BiH, others advocate for the federalization of the entire BiH - states our source.

We have been confirmed that a concrete map of the planned four units does not exist precisely for these reasons, and for now it is a "dead letter on paper", especially considering that neither Serbs nor Bosniaks support such an idea.

CROATS OF CENTRAL BOSNIA AND THE NORTH

A serious problem for Croats in any further idea of federalizing BiH would be the Croats in central Bosnia and in two or three predominantly Croatian municipalities in northern BiH, who would remain outside an entity with a Croatian majority in such a division.

This is another reason why the political leadership of Croats in BiH approaches this issue with extreme caution and why no maps are being released to the public.
