Orthodox believers celebrate Easter today

(Patria) - Orthodox believers celebrate Easter today, which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

According to belief, Jesus Christ, through his resurrection from the dead, conquered death, suffering on the cross, when the sinless Christ takes upon himself the sins of all mankind, and then through his resurrection.

Orthodox believers first begin the celebration of Easter, preceded by preparation through weeks of fasting, in churches, gathered in community for the Holy Liturgy, the culmination of which is communion – union with God.

Easter is celebrated for three days.

Then the celebration continues within the family circle, where the dyeing of colorful Easter eggs brings particular joy, especially to children.

The colorful egg represents the very symbolism of Easter. The egg is a symbol of the birth of life, the chick breaks through the shell and emerges, just as Christ rose from the grave and ascended into heaven.

Jesus Christ came into earthly life to save mankind from sin through his sacrifice on the cross, and then, through his resurrection from the dead, to conquer death.

The Holy Gospels state that on an early Sunday morning, a strong light shone on Christ's tomb, causing the guards who were guarding the tomb to fall from its intensity, and the huge stone slab that was placed at the entrance to the tomb moved, and he resurrected.

From 9 a.m., you can follow the broadcast of the Easter liturgy from the Cathedral Church of the Most Holy Mother of God in Sarajevo on BHT1.
