Winter School of Experimental Physics Begins

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Winter School of Experimental Physics, organized by the Society of Physicists in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Richmond Park College, began today at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sarajevo.

"Today we have the pleasure of opening the Winter School of Experimental Physics for over 90 elementary and high school students. The students have come to Sarajevo from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina to socialize and learn together over the next four days," the Society of Physicists told us.

Although the Society regularly organizes physics camps during summer and winter breaks, which mostly include theoretical lectures, this time they decided to change the format of the camp and organize a physics school with an emphasis on conducting experimental tasks.

Benjamin Fetić, president of the Society of Physicists, told us that students have very little contact with experiments during regular classes, and it is not uncommon for students to not conduct a single physics experiment during their primary and secondary education.

"Physics classes are mostly reduced to classic lectures. We often get this information in conversations with students, and that led us to realize that we must do more to present the other side of physics to students, because theoretical knowledge is significantly richer when you see its practical application. The school runs from January 20 to 23, and students will have the opportunity to conduct a number of experiments from various fields of physics, listen to popular science lectures, and conduct simple experiments themselves as part of workshops," Fetić concluded.
