Palmer in Mostar: USA is monitoring the situation, we expect fair and democratic elections

MOSTAR, (Patria) - Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America Matthew Palmer was in Mostar today with US Ambassador Eric Nelson, where he met with representatives of the Election Commission in Mostar, the Pod lupom coalition and CCI, and discussed the upcoming elections to be held on December 20.

"The agreement on holding elections in Mostar is a truly great achievement and not only a positive step for democratic development and progress, but it is important that these elections in December are held in accordance with the highest democratic standards, and that they are fair and just," Palmer said.

In Mostar, Palmer met with the leaders of the parties that will participate in the upcoming elections. After the meeting with the leaders in the City Hall, he said that he is there to signal that the international community and the USA are monitoring what is happening in Mostar.

"Today I am here to signal that the international community is truly monitoring what is happening in Mostar. The USA, the EU, the OSCE, all are working to support civil society to ensure that polling stations are covered by observers. We will be here after the elections as well to help those in power to establish governance, to work for the benefit of the citizens and to provide services to the citizens of Mostar. I am convinced that the elections in December will be fair, transparent and reflect what the citizens want," said Palmer.

Palmer will also meet with a group of young people from whom he will hear their thoughts.
