(Patria) - Today (20.11.2024) a coordinated international operation "Euphrat" was carried out, involving significant cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Serbia, and the European Union, in which, in addition to police officers from SIPA, police officers from the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, the Federal Republic of Germany, Poland, the Republic of Austria, the Netherlands, and Great Britain participated.
Work on this international case has been conducted for a considerable period under the organization of EUROJUST and EUROPOL.
Police officers from the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), within the scope of this international operation, detained three individuals in the areas of Sarajevo and Tuzla on grounds of suspicion that they committed the criminal offenses of "Organizing a group or association for the commission of the criminal offense of migrant smuggling" and "Human trafficking," as stipulated by the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After criminal processing, the detained individuals will be handed over to the further jurisdiction of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the legal deadline.
There are grounds for suspicion that the detained individuals smuggled over 750 migrants of Syrian origin to the Federal Republic of Germany and Great Britain via the Western Balkan route.
In the territories of the aforementioned countries, several individuals were detained today, including the organizer of the group.
Searches of residential and auxiliary buildings and movable property were carried out at three locations, during which items that could serve as evidence in criminal proceedings were discovered and temporarily seized.
The aforementioned activities were carried out by order of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with police officers from the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton and Tuzla Canton, as well as with the Service for Affairs with Foreigners.
