Komsic in Ljubljana: Let's adapt to the fact that there is no longer only one center of military power in the world

(Patria) - Member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić gave a lecture tonight in Ljubljana on the topic "The Western Balkans in a changing global order - perspectives of Bosnia and Herzegovina".

This lecture was organized by the International Institute for Middle Eastern and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) on the occasion of its 25th anniversary as part of the "Western Balkans and the EU" cycle.

Among other things, Komšić spoke about contemporary geopolitical challenges in the Western Balkans, the role of BiH in preserving regional stability, and the prospects of European integration in the context of changes in the global order.

In his speech, he placed particular emphasis on security challenges, political processes within Bosnia and Herzegovina, and broader regional dynamics that affect the future of Southeast Europe.

- Bosnia and Herzegovina should remain on the path defined by the country's official policy and work towards becoming a member of NATO, in what form, when, and how - that is a separate question - said Komšić.

He also emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina should continue to maintain the ambition to one day become a member of the European Union.

He pointed out that what is happening in the world now cannot be called the destruction of all values, because it is questionable whether the values on which the international order was officially based actually existed due to the great hypocrisy in all of this.

Komšić is of the opinion that the question arises whether Bosnia and Herzegovina should remain where we said we are, or perhaps try to adapt to the fact that there is no longer an undisputed center of political and military power.

- Perhaps the statement sounds too strong, but the facts are that in the East, China is growing and becoming a serious power, India too. And some countries that were considered only regional powers are proving to be key in processes that can shape the future world, such as Turkey, Iran, Israel, and Pakistan - stated Komšić.

He is of the opinion that if Bosnia and Herzegovina were to make a radical turn towards some other alliances in the now multipolar world, it would disrupt not only the situation in the country but also regional stability.

He expressed the desire for the countries of the region to find themselves on the same foreign policy goals so that in the future they can be in a political and economic club like the European Union, and that we share universal values.

Komšić believes that it is evident that the power that was concentrated in one place has simply dispersed across the entire planet.

- One can only hope that there will be more wisdom than there has been so far and that the need for some order will prevail and that we will move towards a peaceful resolution of all active and potential conflicts - Komšić said, adding that the United Nations is needed by the world because it is difficult to imagine a world in which such an institution does not exist.
