No constitutive session of the City Council yet: Election of the Mayor of Sarajevo is being delayed due to political appetites

(Patria) - A meeting of representatives of political entities whose representatives have confirmed mandates for the City Council of Sarajevo for the mandate period 2024-2028 is scheduled for May 13, although the Decision on confirming and publishing the results of indirect elections and awarding mandates for the City Council of Sarajevo was published in the Official Gazette of BiH on April 25.

The City Administration announced that preparations are underway for holding and determining the date of the Constitutive Session of the City Council.

Given that the meeting is scheduled only for May 13, after which the date of the constitutive session should be known, everything looks like buying time for the election of a new mayor.

The parties of the Trojka have not yet reached a final agreement on positions, i.e., on candidates for mayor, deputies, and the president of the City Council and deputies.

The previous agreement was for NIP to nominate the mayor of Sarajevo, Samir Avdić, and the deputies to be from SDP and Naša stranka. The current mayor Predrag Puharić (SDP), who was elected last November after Benjamina Karić took over as head of the Novi Sarajevo municipality, did not make much of an impression on the citizens of Sarajevo, and it is disastrous that in surveys published by the media, citizens do not know the name of the mayor of Sarajevo. And now, the plan is reportedly for him to be one of the deputies of the new mayor.

Zusammensetzung des Stadtrats: Muamer Mekić, Vedad Deljković, Adi Zahiragić, Emir Bićo, Armin Buljugić, Srđan Simonović, Željko Ler, Jasmin Ademović, Alen Girt, Zvonko Ivišić, Zlatko Ilić, Sonja Mušić, Svjetlana Šošić, Amer Herenda, Kerim Balić, Srđan Srdić, Edhem Imamović, Edison Pavlović, Mirza Ramić, Dragana Bogdanović, Armin Handžar, Nejra Džanko Zukobašić, Hana Keč, Dino Okerić, Jasmin Smječanin, Azra Čomor, Damir Filipović und Bojan Vučković.
