Rowdies scrawled offensive messages on the Begsuja city mosque in Zvornik, which disturbed Bosniaks from this town in eastern Bosnia on Sunday morning, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).
The inscription "balije", an offensive term for Bosniaks, appeared on the fence of the city mosque.
The president of the Majlis of the Islamic Community in Zvornik, Mustafa ef. Muharemović, stated earlier to the Patria agency that intolerance towards Bosniaks, which was felt just a few years ago, is not felt in Zvornik today, but unfortunately, rowdies who desecrate Bosniak religious buildings are still found from time to time.
During the Serbian aggression against BiH in 1992, about 2,300 Bosniaks were killed in the Zvornik municipality. The bodies of about 560 of them have not yet been found. A large number of mass graves were discovered in the Zvornik area, containing the bodies of murdered Srebrenica victims.
Dozens of cases are currently open before domestic and international courts for the crimes in Zvornik. Local Serbs are being prosecuted, as well as criminals who came to Zvornik from neighboring Serbia.
At the beginning of this year, an 81-year-old returnee was murdered in the yard of his house in Kozluk near Zvornik; three years earlier, a Bosniak on his way to Bayram prayer was attacked and seriously injured.
The police are working to identify the rowdies who desecrated the city mosque in Zvornik over the weekend, writes Patria.
