Sarajevo, (Patria) - Europe House in Sarajevo, in the historic Eternal Flame building in the heart of the city, will become a new meeting place for culture, academia, artists and all citizens who want to bring Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the European Union. The loan agreement for the new premises of Europe House was signed today in Sarajevo by Ambassador Johann Sattler, Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative in BiH, and Abdulah Skaka, Mayor of Sarajevo.
Ambassador Sattler congratulated the project team and emphasized that the signing of the official agreement is an important step towards bringing the European Union closer to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“This is an excellent location, right in the heart of the city. The European Union is in the hearts of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who want to join our Union. You are part of the European cultural and, of course, geographical space, and one day you will be part of the European Union. This location for our new premises in the very center of the city is a true reflection of that. I believe that this place will be open to all citizens, students, academia, and artists. It will be a true center for all citizens who want to be part of the European Union and who want to feel what it means to be part of the European Union,” Ambassador Sattler pointed out.
Ambassador Sattler presented the conceptual design for the new premises to the Mayor of Sarajevo, inviting closer cooperation and involvement in ensuring the successful implementation of the project. The renovated Eternal Flame building will thus become the permanent home of the new Europe House and the administration and institutions of the City of Sarajevo, continuing the successful cooperation of the European Union with local administrations across the country in order to bring Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the European Union and enable citizens to enjoy all the benefits of full membership.
“Time will tell the importance and historical significance of this moment. The City of Sarajevo and its institutions will have a permanent residence in this beautiful building in the very heart of Sarajevo. We have been working on the realization of this idea for more than two years, and I congratulate the project team. This will certainly be the seat of the City of Sarajevo as it deserves. Another important piece of information is that we are the first administrative body in BiH that will share a roof with the European Union. The City of Sarajevo will invest in the time ahead to become part of the great European Union community,” said Abdulah Skaka, Mayor of Sarajevo.
The doors of the new Europe House in Sarajevo are expected to open during the celebration of Europe Day, May 9, 2021, thereby strengthening the presence of the European Union and enabling more active participation of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European integration process.
