Bosniak delegates in RS initiate protection of vital national interest due to display of Serbian symbols

(Patria) - At the session of the National Council of Republika Srpska, no agreement was reached regarding the initiated mechanism for the protection of the vital national interest of the Bosniak Club on the law that defines that along with the display of RS symbols, Serbian symbols are also to be displayed.

This concerns the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Use of the Flag, Coat of Arms, and Anthem of RS, which was adopted at the proposal of the President of the National Assembly of RS, Nenad Stevandić, at the last regular session of the NSRS.

Representatives of the Bosniak people in the National Council of RS initiated the mechanism for the protection of vital interest, regarding which no agreement was reached today at the session of the National Council of RS.

Therefore, this law has been sent to the Joint Commission of the NSRS and the National Council of RS for procedure.

The Law on Amendments to the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments, established in accordance with Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has also been sent to the Joint Commission. No agreement was reached on this Law either, after the Bosniak Club initiated the mechanism for the protection of vital national interest.

Alija Tabaković, delegate in the National Council of RS, stated that the Bosniak Club considers the Law on the Use of the Flag, Coat of Arms, and Anthem of RS to endanger vital and national interest because it introduces the display of Serbian symbols.

"These are symbols that the Constitutional Court of BiH has already ruled on and declared unconstitutional, after which the symbols were withdrawn from use," explained Tabaković.

Regarding the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments, Tabaković says that the prefix "Bosnian" is being deleted from the Law.

"Therefore, it is unclear who will inherit it if a monument is declared. Will it be inherited by BiH or RS?" stated Tabaković.

If the Joint Commission also fails to reach an agreement, the Constitutional Court of RS will decide on these two laws.
