Bosniak delegates veto decision on referendum

At the session of the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska, no agreement was reached today on the decision of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska to hold a referendum on the BiH Court and Prosecutor's Office, to which a veto was placed by Bosniak delegates of the Council of Peoples, reports the Patria News Agency.

An attempt will be made to harmonize this issue again tomorrow at the Joint Commission of the Council of Peoples and the National Assembly of RS, and if no agreement is reached then, the Constitutional Court of Republika Srpska will have the final say.

The Speaker of the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska, Nada Tešanović, confirmed at a press conference that there was no agreement on the decision of the Bosniak Club to veto the decision on the referendum, and that three clubs were against that veto, BN reports.

However, the Deputy Speaker of the Council of Peoples, Kemo Čamdžija, emphasizes that the National Assembly cannot make decisions on issues related to state bodies of BiH, but only on issues within the jurisdiction of the entities.

Čamdžija emphasized that the subject of this referendum has no constitutional basis and stressed that the Bosniak Club will also seek an assessment of the constitutionality of the Law on Referendum in RS and expects that this law will be challenged by the Constitutional Court of BiH.
