(Patria) - Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović spoke with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on the first day of his official visit to this country.
Bećirović was received at Bellevue Palace in Berlin, the residence of the German President, with the highest state and military honors.
During a substantive and open discussion, Bećirović emphasized that the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany are extremely good and friendly, and that Germany has proven many times that it is a great friend and ally of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bećirović pointed out the importance of adopting the resolution on July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica, committed in 1995. He thanked President Steinmeier for Germany's support of activities and measures in the fight against genocide denial, hate speech, and the glorification of war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He also highlighted the important role of Germany in supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He stated that Germany is one of the main advocates for Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path, which it has proven many times, including when the decision was made to open accession negotiations for Bosnia and Herzegovina with the EU.
Bećirović said that Germany's proactive role is particularly important in this context.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier confirmed Germany's unequivocal support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He stressed that any threat to the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina is unacceptable. During the talks, the importance of Germany as an active participant in the process of bringing the Western Balkans closer to the EU was highlighted.
The interlocutors specifically addressed the security issues of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans in general. It was emphasized that the stability of the region is important for the stability of the whole of Europe, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Federal Republic of Germany must continue close cooperation on these issues.
Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany have traditionally good political and economic relations. In addition to economic cooperation, cooperation in the field of culture is also significant. There is a tradition between the two countries of celebrating and promoting cultural events, and exchanging knowledge and experience in the field of education. The large BiH diaspora in Germany also represents a significant link between Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasized the Chairman of the Presidency, Denis Bećirović.
