US Embassy in BiH marks 20 years of Dayton: Working together, BiH will achieve more

The 20th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement was marked at the National Museum in Sarajevo, organized by the US Embassy in BiH and the OSCE Mission to BiH.

The attendees were addressed by US Ambassador Maureen Cormack, US Congressman Michael Turner, US Secretary of State John Kerry, and BiH Presidency member Bakir Izetbegović.

Ambassador Cormack emphasized that 20 years of peace were being celebrated tonight. Otherwise, the event titled "20 Years of Peace" began with a minute of silence in honor of the two soldiers killed a few days ago in Sarajevo, the victims of the last terrorist attack in France, and all victims who have ever died in terrorist attacks worldwide.

- The path ahead is neither easy nor simple. Every citizen has the opportunity to express their opinion and lead the changes they desire. We must enable young people to take a leading role in the country. Together we achieve more, this is not just a phrase, these are words that are a guide to the future and prosperity. Working together, BiH will achieve more - said Ambassador Cormack.

Izetbegović emphasized that in today's testimony, which will be stored in the (so-called) time capsule and opened in 20 years, future generations will be shown the obvious truth and the need for mutual respect and appreciation, the need for patriotism towards the country in which we are born, and the need to respect its divinely given diversity.

The divine message of respecting the other and the different is the highest human goal that the civilized world should follow. With the wish that my message of peace and mutual appreciation be realized and that we constantly encourage each other on this path, I greet you and wish you all the best - emphasized Izetbegović.

US Secretary of State John Kerry addressed the attendees at the National Museum of BiH via video link, stating that BiH can continue to count on the friendly support of the USA.
