(Patria) - The US Embassy in Sarajevo announced on Twitter its condemnation of threats directed at the Srebrenica Memorial Center and its employees.
"The United States condemns threats and acts of intimidation against the Srebrenica Memorial Center and its staff in relation to their work on the Center's annual report 'Report on the Denial of Genocide in Srebrenica'.
We call on the responsible institutions to thoroughly investigate these threats and prosecute the perpetrators. We strongly condemn the denial of genocide, as well as the distorted and dishonest portrayal of history. There is too much of both in today's Bosnia and Herzegovina. Acknowledging and accepting the facts regarding the genocide and war crimes committed during the 1992-1995 war are essentially the first step towards reconciliation. This is a responsibility that lies with Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole, not just one ethnic group.
The glorification of war criminals, regardless of their ethnic affiliation, as well as efforts to rehabilitate convicted war criminals or minimize their crimes, tear at the fabric of society in the country by fueling hatred and intolerance. These actions undermine efforts to build a Bosnia and Herzegovina in which all its citizens enjoy a peaceful and prosperous life," stated the US Embassy on Twitter.
